jayme-bomben-500“I grew up the kid of an insurance lawyer. It wasn’t until high school that I realized there was actually an insurance company named State Farm and Allstate because all I ever heard around my house was “Snake Farm” and “Allsnake.” I always thought lawyer jokes were weird because my Dad the lawyer- he was amazing and patient and kind and principled. He raised four daughters that love and respect him. I vividly remember the first time I ever heard my dad yell. It was in a Travis County courtroom. I was a 33 year old licensed attorney co-chairing his trial. My Dad was so passionate and there was nothing more important to him in that moment than making sure our client was taken care of by the insurance company we were up against. I cried. That’s when it hit me. This is it. I have never liked bullies and I have never liked people not doing what they said they would do. This was my chance to stand up to the bullies and make a difference for someone by being their voice. And well, since my parents always told me that I would argue with a fence post I decided to use my gusto to fight a more formidable opponent. So here I am. A lawyer. In a profession that is the butt of a lot of jokes. I still don’t like lawyer jokes and I think I am a pretty funny person. I once took a State Farm t-shirt that said “Like a Good Neigh-Bear“ off a teddy bear and put it on a stuffed Grinch from the Grinch who Stole Christmas. Then I felt bad because the Grinch actually did a big-hearted thing at the end. So who am I? I believe in telling the truth. All the time. No matter what. I believe no one should get a free ride. That you should always do what you say you will do. And, I believe that everyone should be treated fairly. I stand for these things as a human, as a mother, a wife, a daughter, sister, and as a lawyer.”
